I love crate paper's Snow Day collection and was happy to discover that it worked perfectly with some non-winter, non-Christmas photos.

 
I'm trying to remind myself that she actually is sweet...she and Ruby decided to paint each others toenail and fingernails (all the way up to her knuckle) with hot pink nail polish.  And if that wasn't bad enough...they put on their new Christmas outfits & got them covered in nail polish. ggrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

I'm so not impressed...but trying to keep it all in perspective!

Snow Days

We had a lazy Sunday, sat around and watched Elf, wrote letters to Santa and watched the snowfall....and then we got more snow, and more snow and more.

90cm of snow....we live in a newer subdivision which isn't fully assumed by the city, which means no plow!  Ken did his good samaritan duties and helped lots of people try and push their cars out of the snow...some of the cars were stuck on the road for 2 days.

We were stuck inside and we hadn't made it to the grocery store....so we had no milk, no bread, no eggs and no dog food.  The dog enjoyed some rice and veggies and we ate all the appetizers we were saving in our freezer for Christmas Eve!

Three days and 3 feet of snow later, our road finally got plowed and I made it to work and the schools re-opened.

And in keeping with the snow theme....I wanted to share this simple 8.5 x 11 page with one wee photo of Ruby in the snow when she was just 1 year old.

 
I'm so happy that the storm is over and we're back into a normal routine.  I've got a bit more shopping to do this weekend and then I'll be all set for Christmas.  I'm going to crank up my Glee Christmas CD and wrap some gifts tonight! 

More Old Fashioned Christmas

I wanted to share two more layouts that I made with the December Up The Street kit.

For this page, I did something I've never done before...used a photo from istockphoto.com  I really wanted a photo of parcels all wrapped up in kraft paper and since I was too lazy to wrap up a bunch of my own stuff, I used this photo instead!

 
I loved the Webster's Pages paper in the kit and wanted to use the entire sheet for the background on this layout.  I love Christmas eve photos...I love the obvious excitement and anticipation.

 
I took apart the Prima flower and layered it to make this little tree.  I dipped the Maya Road star in the glitter to make a little tree topper.

 
If you can, take a trip out to see the Up The Street store....Tara has it beautifully decorated for the holidays.  While I was there today I stocked up on some of the Studio Calico Mr.Huey mists and some more of the Girl's Paperie Christmas stuff. 

I'm slowly getting the house ready for Christmas.  We're mid-renovation of our basement, so I'm keeping the decorations to a minimum this year....way too much drywall dust to worry about!

Old Fashioned Christmas

I dug way back in my photos for this one of Ruby in 2005.  Right after this photo was taken she burst into tears and had a meltdown of epic proportion...we didn't bother visiting Santa until a few years later!

this past week

I became an auntie again....Theo Jackson Cuthbert was born on November 24th in Singapore.

Birthday Girl

It's my birthday today!  36...how did that happen???  I will have a "36 things about me at 36" layout...but I can't share it for a few more days, so I'll share this birthday page with photos of my favourite 6 year old!

 
We took a little road trip yesterday to Port Huron Michigan...only 103 kms from our house....a little shopping at Target, Kohl's and picked up some gluten-free stuff at the grocery store.  Everywhere we went, Ruby told people "it's my mum's birthday weekend"...it was really cute!  The girls got me the Glee Christmas CD, so I'm going to spend the afternoon in my scrapbook room listening to music and working with the December Up The Street kit.  I got the kit in the mail on Friday and it is stunning!!

 

 

Remembering

Today I am remembering.....

My Papa - Captain Robert Jackson who served in WWII

 

The 100's of veterans I have had the honour of working with in my job in Veterans Arts at Parkwood Hospital.

 

I am thankful to Veterans Affairs Canada for providing 100% of the funding for my department.  Thankful that the veterans' creativity is being recognized - they recently made 1300 cards for a fundraising event.

 
The veterans I work with are on average, 86 years old and share stories that I will remember forever. 

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

We will remember them.

Gratitude November 8th and 9th

Today I am grateful that Monday is over. Between the time change, my insomnia and Ken's snoring, I was up for the day at 4a.m and not too happy about it!  However, I did manage to get some scrapbooking done before heading to work!  Forgive the shadowy photo...it's dark in the morning when I go to work and dark when I'm getting home, so Ken took the photo of this layout.

I am really wishing that I could go back to Chicago with these friends....we had such a good time!

 
Today, I am grateful for gluten-free waffles topped with blueberries and raspberries....a perfect start to the day!

Weekend Gratitude

I have lots to be thankful for this weekend...including the extra hour of sleep because of the time change!

Ruby celebrated her birthday yesterday with a party at the Children's Museum.  It was the perfect mix of school friends, daycare friends and family friends.  She had a blast!

 
Today has been our running around day....groceries, drug store, Rona...we've got lots of home renos. on the go right now.

I'm so grateful for the lady that does free painting at the grocery store.  The girls got their faces painted while Ken did the shopping...perfect.  How cute are they?

 
 
No scrapbooking for me lately, but hopefully I'll get some time this week -I've got so many things I want to work on right now.
